Day 1: \ ;(December 6\, 2023)
\nAn overview of the Georgia E arly Literacy Act\, the Dyslexia Legislation\, and the Science of Reading< /span>
\nBack by popular demand\, this one-day tr aining from John O&rsquo\;Connor will include an overview of dyslexia\, th e recently adopted state rule\, HB538\, and how to provide effective readi ng instruction beginning with Tier 1 instruction through tiered interventi ons. \; This is a repeat of last year&rsquo\;s Dyslexia Drive- Ins that John has repeated several times across the state. \; If you have participated in that traini ng\, at any location\, you do not need to attend this day. \; If you h ave not\, you need to participate before you attend Day 2.
\nThis session will include the characteristics of dyslexia including breaking widely held myths. \; In addition\, there will be a deep review of the 5 Domains of Reading and other elements of t he Science of Reading. You will leave this session with 24 Big Ideas t o Meet the Needs of Students with Dyslexia.

\n\;Preparing for the Dyslexia Law: Worki ng with Your Team to Develop Strategic Steps
\nThis day is designed for teams from schools or districts who want to analyze their current practices and develop strategic steps to improve Tie r 1 reading instruction and to eventually build effective tiers of interve ntions for students with dyslexia. \; During this hands-on session\, t eams will dig into these questions and determine possible next steps:
\n--Are elementary students across the district or scho ol consistently participating in high-quality instruction that is guided b y the performance standards?
\n< span style="font-size: 12pt\; font-family: georgia\;">--Are the core instr uctional materials based on the Science of Reading -- those elements that research has indicated have the greatest chance of helping all students be come proficient readers?
\n--Are elementary leaders deeply knowledgeable about effective reading/ELA instruction?
\ n--Do elementary teachers have everything they need to provid e high-quality reading and ELA instruction including the necessary knowled ge\, materials\, training\, and support?
\n--Do cur rent intervention practices have a high impact on student learning while m inimizing unnecessary paperwork and meetings?
