tors through a psychoeducational presentation on the impact of working wit
h families in the tragic aftermath of sudden\, violent\, and traumatic los
ses - often involving the death of a young person - including from the opi
oid epidemic\, rising suicide rates\, and domestic or gang violence. \
;Funeral directors will be given an opportunity to consider the psychologi
cal impact of working in funeral and bereavement care\, recognize vicariou
s traumatization and compassion fatigue\, and cultivate diverse strategies
for engaging in effective self-care.

\nJoanne L. Harpel\, MPhil is the President and CEO of Rethink
The Conversation and President of Coping After Suicide\, and the former Se
nior Director for Public Affairs and Postvention for the American Foundati
on for Suicide Prevention. She holds a JD from the NYU School of Law\, an
MPhil from Cambridge University\, and a BA from Amherst College.
\n\nJohn R. (&ldquo\;Jack&rdquo\;) Jordan\, PhD is a licensed psychologi
st in private practice in Pawtucket\, RI\, and has specialized in working
with survivors of traumatic losses for more than 35 years. He is the Clini
cal Consultant for Grief Support Services of the Samaritans in Boston\, Ma
ssachusetts and the co-author of three books\, including &ldquo\;Grief Aft
er Suicide: Coping with the Consequences and Caring for the Survivors&rdqu
o\; (Routledge\, 2011). He has a PhD and MA in Clinical-Community Psycholo
gy from Boston University and a BA from Northwestern University.
