The Evidence Collection Technician program is designed to ver
ify an applicant's fundamental knowledge as measured against core job perf
ormance requirements of established professional qualifications\, standard
s and standard industry practices related to evidence collection on fire s
cenes. This measurement is not all inclusive of the incorporated professio
nal standards sited\, but lays the foundation for measuring the holder's f
undamental ability to perform specific evidence collection tasks related t
o fire scene investigation at an acceptable level as measured against publ
ished acceptable practices.
\nThe applicant must provide documentatio
n of meeting minimum requirements including experience\, training\, and ed
ucation. Upon approval they must successfully pass a comprehensive practic
um examination.
\nRequirements/Experience:\nA min imum of 18 months of general experience in a fire investigation related in dustry.\nA minimum of 12 items of forensic evidence collected. The applica nt is responsible for submitting general supporting documents that include the location of the examination\, the date of the examination\, and the p articular type(s) of evidence collected.
\n\nTraining / Educ ation:\nMinimum of 29 hours of tested training.\nCFITrainer.Net&r eg\; Module Prerequisites:\nDNA (3 hours)\nDocumenting the Event (4 ho urs)\nEthics and the Fire Investigator (3 hours)\nThe Scientific Method fo r Fire and Explosion Investigation (3 hours)\nEvidence Examination: What H appens at the Lab (4 hours)\nIntroduction to Evidence (4 hours)\nNFPA 1033 and Your Career (2 hours)\nPhysical Evidence at the \;Fire Scene (4 h ours)\nThe Practical Application of the Relationship Between NFPA 1033 and NFPA 921 (2 hours)\nPre-Requisites are required as supporting knowle dge for the class and the examination. \; Materials within the class a nd examination will reference all Pre-Requisites.
\n\nCompre hensive Practical Examination:\nApplicants must pass all critical elements and achieve a minimum score of 70% on each of the 10 components of the practical testing to be determined to have successfully challenged the exam.\nExamination Period: Four Hours\nRenewal every three years.
