\nThe Expert Witness Courtr
oom Testimony course walks you through what it&rsquo\;s like to prepare fo
r and testify as an expert witness in a real case. During the class\, you
will spend time with actual attorneys giving your deposition\, preparing f
or your testimony\, as well as spending the day in a real courtroom enviro
nment where you will take the stand for direct and cross-examination.
\nThe classroom portion includes Legal System Overview\; Court Rules and
Case Law\; Qualifying as an Expert and Standing by Your Curriculum Vitae\;
and How to Write and Present Your Opinion Analysis.

\nThe co
urt preparation portion includes The Practical Exercise\; Court Exhibits:
How to Present and what should be Included\; Presentation of Evidence: Bes
t Practices\; and Working with an Attorney.
\nThis course meets the t
estimony requirement for IAAI-CFI®\; (IAAI-Certified Fire Investigator)
application.

\nPrerequisites:
\nWork Experience: A minimum of four years&rsquo\; full-time or five yea
rs&rsquo\; part-time general experience in the fire investigation industry
. Specific Work Experience: A minimum of seven fire scenes that you were t
he lead Origin &\; Cause Investigator.
\nAble to meet all the requ
irements of the IAAI-CFI®\; application except for the expert witness t
estimony requirement.

\nThe course requires more than 40 hour
s of preliminary casework\, for which you have six weeks to prepare and su
bmit. Students will be required to update (or create) their Curriculum Vit
ae (CV)\, develop an opinion analysis and court testimony plan\, and creat
e two courtroom exhibits.
