\nMaking the decision to pay or return a check item is one of the critical responsi bilities that rests with the paying institution. Returns must be handled e xpeditiously under Reg CC and in conjunction with the Uniform Commercial C ode to avoid losing the right to return. But just because the institution decides to not return doesn&rsquo\;t mean that the story ends there. In fa ct\, there can be a lot more options available depending on what factors a re at play. The adjustment process is frequently used to resolve issues th at come up after posting. Examples of this include encoding errors\, dupli cate presentment\, and even missing endorsement. On top of this\, institut ions can assert warranty breaches directly to attempt to resolve situation s outside of the typical check exchange such as for scenarios in which the Reg CC RDC Indemnity has been breached along with many others.
